Terry Meylan Weathers
Terry Meylan Weathers, 89, of Fort Jones, CA, passed away from natural causes on July 23, 2022
Terry was born May 27, 1933, in New York City to Alva Terry and Eleonore Meylan Weathers.
He grew up in both New York City and Elkton, KY. Terry attended Holderness School, a private boarding school in New Hampshire for his high school education before studying at the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago in the Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps. He graduated in 1955 with a degree in mechanical engineering and served three years of active duty in the US Navy serving on the USS Larson destroyer.
While attending college in Chicago, he met the girl of his dreams, Jean Louise Spillner, and they married on April 8, 1956. After the Navy he had an illustrious career in the aerospace industry before he and Jean decided to move the family out of the Los Angeles area to peace and serenity of Quartz Valley, CA.
They built their own redwood house in the woods which he loved so dearly. Terry became very involved in the community through the chambers of commerce, running the Pioneer Press newspaper for a while, local pilots’ associations, and then in 1979 taking over the fixed base operation at the Montague-Yreka Airport Rohrer Field which he and Jean operated for 17 years.
Terry was the gentlemen’s gentlemen. He was the kindest of souls and never had a bad word to say about anyone. He always saw the potential in people and made friends with everyone he met. He was an exceptional pilot and taught many Siskiyou County residents to fly over his long aviation career.
Terry is survived by his wife Jean; daughter and son-in-law Cheryl and Bill Freckman; daughter and son-in-law Becky and Patrick Desmond; granddaughter Kelly Ramirez and her husband Thomas; grandson Kris Deala and his wife Abby; granddaughter Ellie Desmond; great grandchildren Lyla and Cora Ramirez, and Jaxson and Raven Deala.
No services are planned at this time due to COVID and the family is hoping to host a celebration of life in the near future.
